The data should be collected on Ammonium bitartrate or similar well-known and well-diffracting crystal.
Probably 30 seconds (Mo –tube) per frame should be adequate - if there are no reasonably strong spots at the corners, make the exposure longer and check your primary beam intensity.
The complete highly redundant data set in P1 can be usually collected using four scans:
- 180 degree of omega scan: omega start: -30, collected at chi=0 and phi=0
- 180 degree of omega scan: omega start: -30, collected at chi=50 and phi=0
- 180 degree of omega scan: omega start: -30, collected at chi=50 and phi=90
- 180 degree of omega scan: omega start: -30, collected at chi=50 and phi=180
The oscillation range: 2 degrees.
Note that 2 degrees oscillations are necessary to check the accuracy of the goniostat. During the course of your research, you will be able to use wider oscillations angles.
The CDW measurements may need additional scans. HKL-2000 and HKL-3000SM have excellent strategy module that allows for flexible data collection strategy.
