Installation Instructions for HKL-2000/HKL-3000

  1. Click "Download software" tab, and then click on the Strasbourg_workshop directory to download the software. Choose your platform (Linux or Mac OS X) and download the appropriate version of the compressed HKL installer program (for example: HKL3000_v704w_installer_linux.zip, which installs either HKL-2000 or HKL-3000). Then extract the files. After extraction you will have the access_prod program and the HKL installer within the HKL3000_v704w_installer_linux(or mac) directory.

  2. Now access_prod can be run; just double click on the icon.  This program will generate a license request file (called info file). Note: If nothing happens, you probably need to load some additional libraries (see menu item "Hardware & Operating Systems" on the left).

  3. Using our License Manager System, click on the tab "My computers".  Then click on “add/edit/delete computers”.   Now select “add a new computer”.  Browse for the info file you created and then click submit.  Click confirm once you see your computer listed in available computers.  Then click submit to send to HKL. Now back on the “My computers” page, click the green "generate the license key" button. This will submit the info file and generate a license key (cr_info file). This license key must be obtained prior to HKL-2000/HKL-3000 installation. Please put the cr_info file in /usr/local/lib or your home directory.

  4. Running the HKL_installer program.
HKL_installer is a program that assists in the proper installation of the HKL-2000/HKL-3000 program. The version available for the workshop users allows for the HKL-3000 installation to perform data indexing, integration, scaling and structure solution.

    1. Enter the extracted directory [for example: HKL3000_v704w_installer_linux] and double click on HKL_installer program.

    2. On the first page, select HKL-2000 (or HKL-3000 if you have installed crystallographic programs like SHELX, CCP4, etc., subsequently called "dependencies") as installation type. Then click continue. The cr_info file will be selected automatically, but if it’s not in /usr/local/lib, an alert will pop up to make sure you want the specified path so click continue (or cancel if you need to enter a different path to the location of the license key [cr_info] file).

    3. On the second page click accept and confirm the acceptance of the license conditions.

    4. If installing HKL-3000, a page will appear which allows you to now define the location of the other programs required by HKL-3000. Optionally, the HKL_installer will search for those programs automatically under the selected directory. (For example /usr/local/xtalprogs might be where you keep them all together in a directory.)  In the Dependencies Directory box, just choose Select, and enter the path to the dependencies directory. Then the installer will try to find the programs.  For the ones it can’t locate, you can use the select button next to each program to specify its particular path. (The path will appear in green when it is located by the installer). Then click continue.

    5. On the next page, define a base directory where the program will be installed. (HKL-3000 will be installed in [base_dir]/HKL3000_v704w directory, or HKL-2000 in [base_dir]/HKL2000_v704w directory).

    6. Choose a detectors' definitions directory - a directory where you keep site definition files. The default location is /usr/local/hklint - available to all users, or it could be [base_dir]/hklint.

After installation is done, the last page shows final notes, for example:  how to run the program from a command line.
The icon for launching HKL-2000/HKL-3000 should appear on your desktop.
